New Holston Mountain Artisans Members
August 30, 2010ABINGDON, VA — Holston Mountain Artisans welcomed several new members in their recent jury session, with two current members being accepted in new categories. They include:
• Three artists from Abingdon: Bunny Medeiros shares her photography skills on note cards of local scenes and flowers and plants of the region; Joyce Samuel, a resident artist at The Arts Depot, creates fused dichroic glass jewelry; and Kim Neal makes crocheted baby items including sweaters, hats, blankets, and stuffed animals.
• David Miller of Norton, Va., makes ink pens from materials such as wood, coal, coffee beans, and corn cobs.
• Current members John Gunther, a weaver from Abingdon, and Robin Freeman of Lebanon, Va., are offering new items. Now using painted and textured aluminum, Gunther cuts various sizes and shapes that are then woven to form unique pieces of art. Freeman, currently a Cooperative quilter, now practices the traditional art of rug twining to create items such as coasters and rugs.
