Sounds of Summer concert series revving up with a hot line-up

June 02, 2019

BRISTOL, TN — Bristol is known for its plentiful and diverse music scene and most concerts are free to the public — just like the Sounds of Summer concert series. Live bands are hosted every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from June through September at the Downtown Center located in the heart of Bristol, Tennessee, on State Street.

With regional bands like Turkey Creek, Cedar Valley, Phantom, High Test Grass or a tribute band like the Billy Joel and Elton John concerts that are slated for July, there isn’t just one kind of music being offered in downtown Bristol.

"You can't throw a rock without hitting someone who has a connection to music. They either write, perform, produce or make sure in some way that it is here in Bristol," said Terry Napier, director of parks and recreation, the department that oversees a good part of the music that goes on in downtown. "It is the one thing that comes to mind to most visitors when visiting Bristol. There is hardly a night goes by that music can't be found in one of the many downtown venues Bristol has to offer, many of which offer great views of our beautiful downtown after dark," Napier continued.

Sounds of Summer concert series begin June 4 and features local band Duty Free. A complete schedule of these free concerts is available at www.bristoltn.org or on rack cards at Slater Center, the Bristol Tennessee Court House or at the Downtown Center venue.

"We are really excited about our line-up this year. There is something for everyone whether it be bluegrass, rock, nostalgia or a tribute concert that features a Hank Williams, Jr. tribute or the Billy Joel/Elton John tribute. It is all here and free to everyone,” Angie Rutherford, recreation programmer for parks and recreation and whose job it is to book bands each year. "Head on downtown, and you will hear some of the best music this side of Nashville."
