Smithsonian art exhibit at Warriors' Path

Date(s):  June 19 - 23, 2017
Location:  Kingsport, TN

KINGSPORT, TN — The Smithsonian is bringing a traveling exhibit "Water | Ways" to Warriors' Path State Park, Kingsport, Tennessee, and your work could be an important part of the exhibit.

The theme of "Water | Ways" is how water affects the way we live, work, create, play and worship and how we care for our water and protect it for future generations.

The exhibit includes a display of local art called "Art | Ways." This is not a contest. The only "prize" is the knowledge that your work has been displayed at the Smithsonian, and has helped exhibit-goers gain deeper insights into the importance of water to the region. You need not be a full-time professional artist to have your work represented. Choose your best piece and submit it for consideration.

Here are the details and rules of "Art | Ways:"

• Up to two pieces of art may be submitted per person.

• Eligible media include painting, photography or textiles. No three-dimensional works or craft items.

• Subject matter should relate to the themes of the Water|Ways exhibition.

• Work must be family-friendly. No nudes will be accepted.

• The exhibition will be judged through photographs submitted to Park Manager Sarah

• Selections will be based on artistic merit, media, and appropriate theme. Decisions will also be based on the availability of hanging space in the Art|Ways Gallery, depending upon the number of entries.

• Photos of the work to be considered should be emailed to Park Manager Sarah Leedy at on or before June 15. Any images arriving after 5 p.m., June 15 will not be accepted.
