JOHNSON CITY, TN — Local artist Greg "Despo" Desposito will be available at the Johnson City Public Library Friday, Aug. 4 from 5-6 p.m. in the Galleria, to meet and greet library visitors as they view an exhibit of his paintings. Despo's paintings are on display at the library from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31.

Desposito has been painting for over a decade, both on his own and collaboratively with his good friend and fellow artist Steve "Stevie D" Davis, together they form the team "Despo/Davis." He has been influenced by many members of his family his great-grandmother painted with watercolors and his grandfather painted with acrylics and oils. His dad is a doodler as well as a music teacher and musician; his mom is a talented scrap booker. Two favorite aunts introduced Despo to rock 'n' roll, and photography, respectively; he credits his Uncle Dewey as the person most responsible for introducing him to the art world as he knows it today.

Despo says "creating art helps me. I enjoy the entire process of taking an idea and turning it into an actual thing. Something that didn't exist for me, now exists. Doing something, or at least trying to do something, is more rewarding for me than not doing or trying anything at all. If I don't have the supplies, I improvise. I experiment to see what works, and even though — more often than not — I find out what it is that doesn't work, I seem to still have a good time trying, because that can be one of the most fun parts of art for me."

Light refreshments will be provided by the Johnson City Public Library. For more information, call 423-434-4450 or Gina Thayer-Coleman at 423-434-4465.
