OPENING JAN. 9: Artist Jered Sprecher is a painter who considers himself to be a hunter and gatherer, constantly accumulating images produced by the people and cultures around him. Segments of this collection of images then emerge in his paintings. His work is on exhibit at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts, Emory, Va. His work shows images that are revealed as fragments in the midst of change, destruction, redefinition and restoration. The sources they are drawn from are changing and evolving and the paintings are caught in that "still" moment of change. His work attempts to grasp a single moment, a glance, or small epiphany. His Artalk is Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m., in the theater in the arts center. 276-944-6333, www.ehd.ecu/mca
