OHNSON CITY, TN — Registration is open for a free, 10-week long workshop in acting, taught by Ed Breese of Blue Moon Theatre. This workshop is offered in conjunction with the “Seeding Artful Aging” grant received in 2018 by Johnson City Public Library.

This workshop meets Mondays from 6-8 p.m., beginning April 30 and meets at the Blue Moon Theatre, located at 215 East Main Street in Johnson City, Tennessee. The workshop culminates in a public performance by the participants Saturday, July 7 at 2 p.m.

This workshop introduces participants to the fundamental principles of acting. It is ideal for adults with little to no experience in acting who would like to build skills in public speaking and have fun working with others in an ensemble. Previous acting experience is not necessary, but a strong commitment to attend each session is required.

Breese is a professional actor and instructor who has been Artistic Director of the Blue Moon Theatre since 2008. Breese has taught acting at the Barter Theatre and at Suffolk Community College. In 2014, he received the “Alumni of the Year” award from East Tennessee State University’s Department of Communication/Theatre.

Johnson City Public Library was selected again in 2018 to receive a “Seeding Artful Aging” grant from Aroha Philanthropies. Artful Aging programs inspire and enable older adults to learn, make and share the arts in ways that are novel, complex and socially engaging. Their work is driven by "teaching artists whose creative process and understanding of older adults bring joy, connection, improved health and well-being, and a renewed sense of purpose to older adults in community and residential settings."
