JCPL introduces summer adult reading program

The Johnson City Public Library’s Adult Summer Reading program “Libraries Rock!” runs from Monday, June 4 through Friday, July 20. Adults may register and participate online at www.jcpl.net and in person at the library. Prizes are given away throughout the summer, including passes to Paramount Center for the Arts and tickets to Ryman Auditorium. All Adult Summer Reading events are free and open to the public, and events requiring registration are noted.

The Adult Summer Reading Events feature:
·Thursday, June 7, 2 p.m.:Rock Painting. Stimulate your imagination at the library’s Rock Painting workshop.Participants make their own creative designs on natural stones. All materials are provided.

Monday, June 11 — July 16
, 6 p.m.:Monday Dance Parties. From beginners to experts, all are welcome to join the library each Monday evening at 6 p.m. for dance sessions taught by talented local instructors. Visit the library’s online calendar for information on the type of dance that will be offered each week. Registration is required.

·Thursday, June 14, 6 p.m.:Rock Gardening. Rock gardens are a low maintenance, water-saving way to enjoy nature. Join the library for an informative workshop to create your own succulent planter. Registration is required.

·Thursday, June 21 at 6 p.m.:Concert by singer/songwriter Daniel Couper with Zach Ross.Local singer/songwriter Daniel Couper blends story and song in a free concert of original music in the library’s Buffalo Mountain Room.Couper’s music blends blues, rock, pop and folk influences to create a contemplatively honest and fervently hopeful listening experience

·Wednesday, June 27, 6 p.m.:Game Night. Have fun flexing your musical knowledge at our music-themed Game Night. Win prizes answering trivia and playing other music-centered games.

·Tuesday, July 10 2:00 — 5 p.m.:DIY Wind Chimes with Skillville. The library is partnering with Skillville to offer a free DIY wind chime class at Skillville’s community workspace located at 224 West Market Street, Johnson City, Tennessee. Participants learn some basic building skills while constructing their own wind chimes. Registration is required.

·Thursday, July 12 at 6 p.m.:Rebellious Reads Book Group. The library welcomes anyone interested to join in this engaging book group that promotes thought-provoking literature and in-depth discussion. The book group reads“BloodMeridian” by Cormac McCarthy. Registration is required and the first 10 registrants receive a copy of the book.
