Summer Reading Programs at Washington County, Tennessee libraries

The Jonesborough and Gray libraries are holding their Summer Reading Programs.

The festivities begin with a party to celebrate the beginning of the Teen Summer Reading Program June 9 at 6:30 p.m. Teens enjoy crafts, activities, and a scavenger hunt. There will be prizes and giveaways throughout the evening; pizza for dinner and a make your own sundae for dessert.

Rising sixth through 12th graders are welcome to attend. This program is free, but registration is required. To register, call the Jonesborough Library at 423-753-1800.

Registration is open for the Teen Summer Reading Program. All rising sixth through 12th graders are welcome to participate.

The program runs for six weeks of programs throughout June and July, ending with a special Lock-in and Black Light Party for participants. Weekly programs meet at 3 p.m. on Tuesdays at Gray and on Thursdays at Jonesborough.

Participate in “Battle for the Library” by attending programs and reading books. You’ll be assigned to a House when you register, and the points you earn will help your House conquer the “Land of Libraria.” The victors win special prizes and rewards at the end of the summer.

The Children’s Summer Reading Program’s theme is “Libraries Rock.” The six week program begins Wednesday, June 6 in Jonesborough and Thursday, June 7 in Gray.

Six weeks of special programs are held Wednesdays at 10 a.m. at the Jonesborough Library and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the Gray Library. The first date listed reflects the Wednesday performance at the Jonesborough Library. The second date reflects the Thursday performance at the Gray Library. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Summer Reading program is funded through generous donations from local businesses and organizations in the community and through the Friends of the Washington County Libraries. All programs are free and open to the public.
