Once you have taken five classes you will get your next one free. There are several opportunities to bundle and save this year if you register for more than one class or if you register for fall and spring classes at the same time. There is also an Early Bird discount of $10 off each class you register before Aug. 11. After Aug. 11, the McKinney Center offers a family or multi-class discount. The first class is regular price and each additional class is $10 off.

Scholarships are also available for students kindergarten through 12th grade. Through a simple application process each child in the family can receive a class tuition free. The scholarship also covers all supplies for the class. Scholarship recipients and their families are asked to then volunteer 10 hours during the semester.

Adults can earn 50 percent off classes if they volunteer 20 hours or more throughout the year.

The catalog is full of choices for kids, teens, and adults this semester. For example, kids in grades kindergarten through sixth can take Art Adventures or Creative Construction taught by Larke Foster. Foster has taught at the McKinney Center for six years and prior to that spent her artistic career teaching in the Sullivan County School system. She is still a practicing artist and enters exhibitions around the region. These art classes are fun and experiential sessions where kids make and take home paintings, drawings, and sculptures and also learn the foundations of art such perspective and shadowing. There are also age appropriate classes in clay, Hip Hop, Guitar, Ukulele and film.

There are plenty of options for teens at the McKinney Center for this age group. The Introduction to 2-D Art is perfect for that teen who loves to draw and doodle but needs clear instruction and guidance. The Introduction to 2-D Art also provides lessons in printmaking and painting so that students get to experience a variety of art forms and be able to find the one that they love the best. There are also sessions for teens in clay, painting, Hip Hop, Guitar, Ukulele, film and creative writing.

Adult classes are also available this semester with a wide variety of options. Hand-Building with Clay and the Potter’s Wheel are all classes that immerse your hands in clay. There are sessions for beginners and more advanced students. Drawing and Painting are very popular with adult students whether you are a beginner or experienced. There are several beginner and basic drawing classes for adults. The Drawing Series is a course divided into two sessions. Students can take one or both of the classes and save money. If painting is your interest artist and long-time teacher Sharon Squibb is teaching Introduction to 2-D Art and Adventures in Watercolors. Ginny Walls is also teaching a daytime Watercolor class for adults. Adults can also enjoy Hip Hop, creative writing, guitar lessons, ukulele lessons, and one day creative sessions.

This semester’s creative sessions include Wire Sculpture, clay Jack-O-Lanterns, Casting and Mold Making with Plaster, Paper Art Composition and Glass Fusion Workshops.

Early registration secures a spot in class as well as a $10 discount through Aug. 11. Individual class costs vary. A Fall Open House will be held at the McKinney Center on August 11 from 2-6 p.m. This will be an opportunity for the public to see what the fall classes have to offer.
