Venue: Knoxville Civic Auditorium

Knoxville, TN 37919

KNOXVILLE, TN — Knoxville-based Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble kicks off its 38th season with three 90-minute performances at the Civic Auditorium in Knoxville Feb. 15 and 16. The theme for this year’s season is “Voices of Children,” and the repertoire features inspirational works from leading choreographers. Friday performance is at 8 p.m. Saturday performances are at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The group’s mission statement of ‘Children Helping Children’ is represented in this year’s collection of dances. Pieces run the gamut of feelings experienced by children in today’s world. This concert features works from TCDE’s Assistant Artistic Director, Amy Wilson, such as “What About Us,” “Caught,” and “Fire: Escape” — pieces that deal with issues ranging from the environment to mental health to relationships. Also, the ensemble takes on works from renowned choreographers such as Randy Duncan and Joan Kunsch.

In addition to regular performances, the company presents discounted (and abbreviated) daytime performances for children and seniors Friday, Feb. 15 at 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m.
