JOHNSON CITY, TN — Forty million Americans, including 12 million children are at risk of hunger. That includes many in the local community. The Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with Northeast Tennessee Second Harvest and the League of American Orchestra’s Feeding America program conduct a food drive from March 18-23. Non-perishable food items can be brought to the JCSO office or can be brought to the concert on March 23.

The final concert of the season for the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra is March 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Milligan College, Seeger Chapel in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Guest artists include Esther Park, piano. Since 2015, Park has been assistant professor of piano at East Tennessee State University. Born in Pusan, Korea, she moved to the United States in 1995 after being accepted to the Juilliard School’s Pre-College division. She completed the undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Juilliard School. She has since received the Artist Diploma, Master of Musical Arts degrees and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the Yale School of Music. Also on the program are the combined choirs of the Appalachian Men’s Ensemble and ETSU’s Bucsworth Men’s Choir. Vocalist, Karen Smith (alto), also share the stage. Smith is Director of the ETSU Opera Theatre, where she leads student casts in fully-staged operas.

To cap off the season, March 30 at 6 p.m. at the Carnegie Hotel in Johnson City, there will be a 10th Anniversary Bash for Dr. Robert Seebacher. Tickets to this fundraising event are $100 per person and include two cocktails, food, music and games.
