ABINGDON, Va. — One of the most beloved musicals at Barter Theatre is coming to Gilliam Stage April 5 through May 11.

"Madam Buttermilk" is this spunky, musical comedy, country music meets opera in one of the most popular productions to ever come though Barter’s Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights.

Hannah Ingram plays a struggling opera singer with a dream to sing the lead in “Carmen,” and her agent accidentally books her a gig at the West Virginia State Fair with the Car Men Band, led by Rick McVey. Chaos erupts and comedy ensues, and there is still time for a love story.

Director Richard Rose says, “Rarely have I experienced audiences of all ages and all backgrounds come together to laugh so hard, to enjoy the journey of this story and these characters so completely, and to leave the theatre so full of joy.”

Tickets start at $20. To book seats, call 276-628-3991 or visit www.BarterTheatre.com
